Many firearm owners out there choose to defend their home with a handgun. The trouble with defending your home is that it usually happens at night. If you can’t or don’t want to kick the lights on in the house, you may find that it’s difficult or even outright dangerous to see using the included iron sight on your Glock pistols.

If you've tried to search for a handgun or other weapon with fast sight acquisition at night, your search may have come up empty.

But no worries, here we're going to talk about replacement front sights and rear sights that you can mount on your weapon and still fit it in its holster. Your search is over.

We’re talking primarily about the Glock 26 in this article. The products we review will all be compatible with the Glock 26, and we’ll be talking about considerations with sub-compact glock pistols and other characteristics of the Glock 26.

That said, many of the same things we’ll discuss here are worth considering no matter which Glock pistols you may be using for defense.

Do I Need Night Sights for my Glock 26?

Defending your home is just one example of a situation that might require a night sight. If you carry concealed for self-defense outside of the home, most threats will also happen at night, and likely in an area that is not well-illuminated.

Criminals often plan out their attacks to occur in poor light conditions, and it’s up to you to plan your defense just as well as they plan their strike.

There are even a few hunting scenarios which could call for using your Glock 26 in poor lighting. The wide variety of situations that could potentially call for a night sight on your Glock 26 definitely make purchasing some specialty night sights worth considering.

Other Things to Consider When Looking for the Best Night Sights for Glock 26

Can I Use Night Sights for Daytime Shooting?

Yes, a night sight work perfectly fine for both day and night shooting, and will function essentially the same way as the factory OEM sights that your Glocks came with (which we’ll talk more about later). The difference with night sights is that they use a combination of a luminescent chemical gas called Tritium and fiber optics to glow without requiring electricity.

In daylight, the the best night sights for Glock 26 will look and function just like a normal sight, as the Tritium glows bright enough to be viewed in darkness but not as much in daylight. You'll be able to see the glow of the Tritium during the day, but Tritium is much easier to see at night.

Do Night Sights Work on Sub-Compact Handguns?

Yes, they do. In fact, a number of night sights are designed specifically for sub-compact handguns, and they will function just as well as standard sights with the added benefit of being illuminated in low light conditions. The reason for this is, again, the Tritium.

What’s So Special About the Glock 26?

The Glock 26 is the original “Baby Glock” and has been around since the ‘90s. Its main competitor is the Glock 43 - a more recent variation of the Baby Glock - and the even newer 43x.

The Glock 26’s claim to fame is that even though it’s only 6.41 inches long, 1.18 inches wide, and 4.17 inches tall, it still has a carrying capacity of 10+1 thanks to Glocks double-stack design.

For reference, the Glock 43, which is 0.18 of an inch thinner, can only carry 6+1. The Glock 26’s decent carrying capacity along with its conveniently small size have made it a very popular “back-up” gun to the Glock 17/19, as well as a concealed-carry pistol. The Glock 17/19 are large enough that concealed carry is difficult.

The 26 shoots 9mm 9x19 ammunition, which is a great balance of stopping power, size, recoil, and availability. 9mm is a great caliber for home and self defense and can even be used in some hunting scenarios.

You can also get an Idea for Glock 43 night sights of you are looking for one.

Are Night Sights the Same as Night Vision?

No, night vision devices (NVD) actively collect light waves beyond the normal visible spectrum and display them to your eye. A night sight is just a sight that glows so that you can clearly see it in the dark.

best night sight for glock 26

This may seem like a trivial thing, but standard iron sights are not typically reflective or noticeable in any way, and even if the darkness causes you to only be a tiny bit off, you could still miss that critical shot.

Even the best night sights for Glock 26 will not illuminate your target at all, they will just allow you to properly line up your sights when you wouldn’t otherwise be able to see them at all.

Are Night Sights the Same As Dot Sights?

No, they are not. A night sight has at least one Tritium lamp, and up to three Tritium lamps that make it easy to use at night. A dot sight paints a little dot on your target so you don't have to worry so much about sight alignment.

The sights are made differently as well. Tritium sights have a Tritium insert inside of a fiber optic cable that allows for fast target acquisition even in poor weather conditions.

What to Look For When Comparing Night Sights?

The best night sights for Glock 26 will have a solid steel construction. The reason is, on a Glock 26, the sights are mounted on top of the slide, so they’ll be subject to some jarring recoil. The containers for the Tritium lamps will most likely be plastic, though tough glass is not out of the question. You’ll also want to compare the sight picture of each night sight to choose which one you like the best.

A lot of that will be a matter of preference, but something as simple as a green color vs. an orange color can make a lot of difference in how well it works for you personally.

Different sights have different ways of lining up the sights and which one you prefer may come down to your personal experience and preferences. You may prefer a front sight that's one color and a rear sight that's another.

The best Glock sights for you will match what you want. You can check reviews for photos of the handgun sights, the sight height, and other information. Well-made handgun sights will have great reviews, and you'll be able to see the brightness of the Tritium insert, whether they're easy to install, and even where the sights are made.

Most pistol sights will have fairly similar performance in terms of accuracy, as long as the build quality holds up to the recoil and punishment that is inherent to being mounted on a firearm. Some sights will be brighter than others, and each model that we will recommend here has its own fanbase of dedicated users who believe that it alone is the best night sight for the Glock 26.

The sights on this list all have some kind of warranty or satisfaction guarantee, so the cons of purchasing one shrink compared to being able to see your targets if the lights go off. None of these require batteries, so the shooter does not need to worry about parts of the sight shutting off.

Let’s go through our reviews and recommendations for best night sights for Glock 26.

1. TruGlo Brite-Site TFO Night Sight

sights for glock

The TruGlo TFO uses a 3-dot system. You match up the three dots both horizontally and vertically to make sure you’re shooting straight, and then you’re good to go. All three dots glow green, and are bright and solid.

These sights have an all-metal construction entirely of CNC machined steel and, of course, do not require any batteries to operate.

The low profile design of the TruGlo should make it snag resistant if not completely snag free, so they should work very well on a concealed Glock 26. The brightness of the Tritium lamps makes them visibly green day and night. These should be easy to install without any special tools beyond a thread locking agent.

TruGlo Brite Site TFO Night Sights

These night sights are fast, easy to use, easy to see, and straightforward for those who want a traditional 3-dot, and their overall rating reflects that. TruGLo uses Swiss Tritium, which is known for its high quality, and they have a decent warranty.

For concealed carriers, the flat design and big bright green dots should make this a great choice. Needing a firearm for self-defense for the first time is a terrifying experience, and while nothing can replace muscle memory and practice, it requires very little conscious thought to line up the big green dots and pull the trigger.

These sights will work great for hunting and defending your home, but in the concealed-carry world is where they really shine. The only reason not to get the TruGlo is if you won't be using any Glocks for self defense.

2. XS 24/7 Big Dot For Glock

glock night sights review

The XS takes a different approach to your sight picture. Both the front sight and the rear sight have illumination from a Tritium lamp, and the Big dot takes a “dot the i” approach to aiming. Essentially you just put the dot on top of the ‘i’ and you’re good to go. With practice, this method of aiming can be even quicker than the three-dot method.

There’s a lot less illumination going on here than with some other night sights, but in this case, less is more, and there is plenty of illumination to be visible in low light conditions. This sight set is fairly small, but with the harsh angles on the rear sight, it may be more prone to snagging than some of the other sights on this list. The front sight should be fine.

The fast target acquisition makes this sight set a strong contender for home defense, and they are still small and functional enough to potentially be great for concealed carry and some hunting situations.

XS 24-7 Big Dot For Glock 26

You can check the product listing for their rating and product information, but the lamp illumination is fantastic, and the accuracy makes these great for duty weapons.

The XS 24/7 Big Dot For Glock is well-designed for concealed carry and defending your home, especially for those who are able to get a lot of practice in at the range. The “dot the i” approach is like learning to type without looking at the keyboard. It takes practice and it might slow you down when you first start learning, but once you’ve got it you can acquire your target much faster.

If you aren’t able to get to the range much, you may consider one of the other optics on this list.

3. Trijicon Night Sight

Trijicon Night Sights Set for Glock Pistols

Trijicon gives you a variety of options with their night sights. They use a 3-dot design and have white rings painted around the glowing dots for added visibility during the daytime. That’s a fairly common feature, but Trijicon also has options to choose from, including your choice of paint on the front sight: orange, red, yellow, and white. This is mostly a matter of preference, but it’s a nice option.

Trijicon is no stranger to Tritium lamps, and their Tritium-Phosphor lamp provides fantastic illumination in poor lighting conditions. Not only is the Trijicon night sight made out of steel, but it has aluminum cylinders that encase the Tritium lamps to protect them from recoil, drops, and even cleaning chemicals.

The aluminum is an added layer of protection, so between the Tritium and the outside world, there's high-durability steel and aluminum.

glock sights

The different models Trijicon offers are the “Bright & Tough”, the “Trijicon HD”, and the “HD XR” sights. The design of the front sight and rear sight differ a little bit between each pair, with the HD and HD XR versions offering an angled and serrated rear sight to cut back on glare, and the HD XR pair having a narrower front sight to allow for better field of view.

Trijicon has a lot of law enforcement and military contracts, many of which include their night sights. The different optics make these a great fit for law enforcement professionals, veterans, or military personnel because they’ll be fast and familiar to what they’ve used before. Trijicons have a combat rating, excellent warranty, high durability, and very few cons.

Even civilians and non-law enforcement can get great results with the Trijicon, they are just less likely to appreciate the subtle differences between the three models before they’ve had a chance to use them. If you’re not familiar anything besides the factory sights that come with your glock, you may just want to stick with the Bright & Tough model.

4. Ameriglo Pro-IDOT For Glock

glock combat sights

These have the simplest design, and are fairly straightforward to use. They are also the most affordable besides the factory OEM sights that came with your 26. This optic does things a little bit differently with these sights, as the front sight actually glows red instead of green, and the rear sight glows green. It has a high rating everywhere you look.

The Ameriglo Pro-IDOT is similar in approach to the XS Big Dot, but instead of a vertical line on the rear sights, you have another dot, which you line up just as you would if it were a vertical line. What’s the difference, you ask? Nothing really, just an alternate way of doing the same thing, and it may be to your liking.

Construction is all steel, except for the Tritium lamps, of course, and the design is so small and discreet that snags shouldn’t be an issue at all. Installation is not as simple; some filing or sanding may be required and you’ll need a sight pusher, which will run you a little bit of money to either buy yourself of a pay a gunsmith to install.

So who are the Pro-I DOT best for? A lot of the same people that the XS Big is good for, since it’s the same basic aiming principle at play. Hunters especially may appreciate having a red front sight and a green rear sight. If you like the minimalist design, these can be great for either concealed carry or defending your home.

5. Meprolight Glock Tru-Dot Night Sight

glock pistol sights

The Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sight is another 3-dot style sight and the sight picture will be very similar to the Tru-Glo, even though from the top they look a lot different.

At least, it will be very similar if you purchase the green on green sight, but the Meprolight Glock optic also has a green on yellow sight if you prefer to have your front sight a different color from your rear sight.

Two different colors can be nice, especially when your adrenaline is pumping, because it stops you from needing to take a moment to figure out which dot is which.

Sure, it shouldn’t take long to get that figured out, but if it takes even a split second longer, that may be too much. That said, plenty of people use green on both the front and rear sight just fine.

best glock 26 sights

These are intended for hunting, and while hunting with a 9mm handgun may seem a bit strange to a lot of people, 9mm is strong enough to bring down a deer as long as the shot is well-placed.

We haven’t talked a lot about using night sights for Glock for hunting as most hunters have rifles or more powerful rigs to hunt, but if you are using a night sight on your Glock 26 for hunting, then all of the sights on this list will work fine.

The Meprolight is designed with hunting, especially night hunting, in mind. Some places in the United States don't allow hunting with handguns, but if you can, then the fast target acquisition, snag free, low profile design that the Meprolight offers is a great choice.

The Tritium lamps are really bright, which is even more important when you’re in the woods away from any ambient light, and while they are small enough to work well when carrying concealed, the design priority is for hunting.

6. AmeriGlo Combative Application Pistol Sight

glock sites

AmeriGlo designed the Combative Application Pistol Sight to be similar in function to their IDOT line, but smaller and lower profile. This is possible partially because the rear sights do not have a Tritium lamp and therefore does not glow; it’s just an orange reflective paint. The front sight has a green dot that's easy to see in day and night.

This is worth considering as a budget sight for someone who wants something a little better than the factory sights in the night but aren’t ready to commit to something like a Trijicon. If you own a number of firearms and are trying to outfit all of them to a minimum standard of readiness, this could be a great choice because of its affordability.

Law enforcement professionals and veterans will likely be disappointed and possibly even frustrated by this sight, as it will not provide the same level of functionality that they demand from an optic. That said, the sight is very functional and is better in low-light conditions than in no-light situations.

Because it’s not great in no-light situations, this would not be recommended for hunting or out in the fields, but could be a great, affordable sight for defending your home or concealed carry. The smaller design makes it a competitive sight for concealed carry, and it fits into a handgun holster perfectly.

Worth Consideration

7. Glock 26 Factory Stock Sight

most accurate glock

Swapping out the sights on your Glock 26 will most likely require a sight pusher at minimum, and possibly doing some filing or sanding or using another sight tool to get everything to fit correctly.

Even with an affordable set of sights, either purchasing the tools to mount them or paying a gun store to do it for you can increase the cost substantially.

As long as you have at least a little bit of light, the factory OEM sights that come with your 26 are white and reflective, and keep their visibility pretty well.

The design is simplistic but functional, and considering that they come with Glock from the factory there’s a lot of reason to consider just continuing to use them.

sights glock 26

The cons are that you don't have as much performance if the lights go off and you don't have any extra warranty.

It’s important to remember that swapping out for different sights isn’t going to magically make you a better shooter. It’s always sage advice to stick with something basic until you’ve mastered the basics, and only upgrade your equipment when it’s holding you back more than your own skills are.

You certainly won’t replace the true glow of a Tritium lamp, so if you will be using your Glock at night then it can be a smart choice to invest in some night sights.

All of the sights can mount onto your handgun and still fit easily into your holster, so if you want protection in multiple shooting scenarios, then the combat capabilities and extra accuracy you'll get from these accessories is huge.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of great options for the best night sights for Glock 26. Glocks are popular enough and has been around long enough that there are a lot of compatible options and you can have your pick of designs, colors, and brands.

Some of the sights are better for certain applications than others, and it comes down to what you’ll be doing and with how much light you’ll be doing it. With few cons, you can keep yourself protected when hunting in the fields or just at home with the lights off.

Regardless of what Glock models you own, you can find a great option. If you want the best night sights for Glock 26 or other Glock models, they should be on this list.
