The other feature that impressed me is that the rings are set slightly closer together than average, which not only allows for more scope travel when making adjustments, but also provides some extra eye relief. And because it's specifically designed for the Remington 700, this mount comes right out of the box at the perfect height for the factory-standard stock comb.

If you're looking for a tough, no-fuss mount that doesn't require any fine-tuning to get set up, the Game Reaper is a very solid pick.

Leupold's detachable rings are available in both a high-profile and low-profile option, but if you're running the kind of high-power variable scopes that most shooters prefer to put on their Remington 700s, you'll probably run into clearance issues with the low-profile version. Luckily the high-profile rings feel just fine with the Remington 700's comb height, so you don't have to worry about an awkward cheek weld.

The mount itself is built from sturdy aircraft grade aluminum, but my one nitpick with these rings is that it's fairly easy to over-torque the threaded screws. Leupold doesn't include this information with the rings for some reason, but you don't want to torque these past 20 inch-pounds or you may end up stripping the screws. The rings are a touch on the high side, to the point that you may to use it with a riser on the stock, but the flip side is that they give you more clearance for the bolt and make it easier to top-load cartridges, so it really comes down to what features and functions you want to prioritize. These rings fit a 30mm scope tube diameter out of the box, but can also accommodate a 1-inch tube if you use the proper inserts.

5. Modkin Rifle Scope Rings Medium Profile Scope Mounts

Modkin's scope rings are built on a traditional multi-part design, and while I typically prefer my rings to have as few moving pieces as possible, I was impressed by how solid these ones ended up being.

They aren't as tall as high-profile rings, but they're a little taller than most standard ones, owing to the fact that they have a hollowed out section in the base of each ring that allows you to use open sights. Though a few older models came with irons, the vast majority of Remington 700s on the market don't have iron sights, but I thought I'd mention this feature anyway. I actually do enjoy having a little extra room to work the bolt, and with these I don't have to adjust my cheek weld like I would with an actual high-profile set.

I'm a big fan of NightForce's optics, so it came as no surprise that their mounts were built to same high quality standards. This one-piece system is designed to be mounted directly onto both long and short Remington 700 actions, and I can safely say that this is probably one of the fastest and easiest mounting processes I've come across.
