Trijicon AccuPower 2.5 10×56 Review [Hands-On]

Trijicon is a great brand, but does the Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56 live up to the Trijicon name? Most riflescopes don’t have quite so long of a magnification range, so how does the Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56 perform from 2.5-10x? If you’ve been considering this riflescope, this review is a must-read before purchasing.

Review Summary

Overall, the Trijicon is a great scope. Light transmission in low-light is great with the multi-coated lenses and 56mm objective lens, and the build quality lives up to every standard Trijicon has set for itself. In my opinion, however, the Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56 suffers from the lack of one very important feature: parallax adjustment.

Depending on the type of shooting you do, how small your targets are, and your own preference, that may not be a big deal to you.

What Is This Scope Designed For?

The Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56 is designed mostly with hunting in mind. The AccuPower series is different from the Trijicon AccuPoint scopes. 

The Trijicon AccuPoint scopes have fiber optics and tritium to provide illumination. The fiber optics and tritium combination is a specialty of Trijicons, but the only capabilities that tritium offers over a battery is that it doesn't ever need to be swapped out.

Requiring a battery is fine for most hunting situations. If you really want the tritium, you can always look at the AccuPoint line. The AccuPoints are also great scopes and using an AccuPoint for hunting makes sense.

Is It Good? Why?

Whether it's a good scope is not really in question; this is a great scope for hunting big game. If you’re going for small game out past 100 yards or aiming at other small targets, then the lack of parallax adjustment will make this not as good. That said, if your firearm is capable of shooting sub-MOA, then this one won't stop you, and using the mil-square crosshair, it can even make it easier.

There's a lot to be said about finding the right line between making a product that has many features and an optic that does it's basic job perfectly. For me, the line is when they have to sacrifice on the optics inside the product in order to get the features in. This optic has fantastic image quality, and that is the number one thing to consider: you can't hit your target if you can't see it clearly through the glass.

What’s In The Package

The package contains just the riflescope with a 30mm tube. It does not come with mounting rings or tools. Depending on where you pick it up, it might come with a lens cloth.

Design and Features

Reticle Design

One great thing about the AccuPower 2.5-10x is that you get three reticle choices. The recommendation from Trijicon is the Mil-square, which is like a mil-dot, but even more helpful at long range shooting. A round dot is not as easy to compare edges with as a square.

The others are the MOA duplex crosshair reticle or a crosshair that is a standard duplex. The MOA crosshair may be more familiar to you depending on what riflescopes you've shot with in the past. You can select the reticle that works with whatever shooting you’re doing, whether it’s hunting or competition.

The reticle is illuminated so when you are aiming at a target in dusk or dawn, you can use the brightness settings to improve the clarity of the reticle.

Objective Lens

The larger the objective of a riflescope, the better the light transmission of the scope should be, which means if you’re targeting a trophy buck at dusk you should have a good chance of seeing it with the AccuPower. 

The Trijicon AccuPower scopes are great at light gathering, especially in low light or when spotting for others. The 2.5-10x56 gives you anywhere from a wide field of view to a narrow field of view.

For a 2.5-10x56mm, you'll have a decent sized exit pupil, and you should be able to see clearly at any range. In fact, the range that you can cover with these magnifications should give you the ability to do well in many situations.

Performance In Different Situations

If you’re hunting big game, the AccuPower 2.5-10x56 is hard to beat. The lack of parallax adjustment doesn’t make as big of a difference when you’re targeting a large animal. That said, if you’re aiming at clays, golf balls, or something else extremely small at long ranges, then it becomes a bigger deal. Parallax adjustment helps increase your accuracy when your target is just a dot in your sight.

The AccuPower 2.5-10x56 is durable and should be able to handle any recoil and weather conditions you throw at it. The riflescope won’t suffer from fogging, and is waterproof and shockproof.

A Good Alternative

Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42mm

If you want a rifle scope that is similar in price to the AccuPower but includes parallax adjustment, the Leupold VX-5HD is a great choice. The objective is smaller but with Leupold’s Twilight light management system you should be in good shape. For the price, you might expect illumination, but you won't have that on the Leupold.

This has a 30mm tube just like the Trijicon. Other products with great reviews to consider include the Swarovski Z3 or one of the scopes from Nightforce.

Final Thoughts

The Trijicon AccuPower is a great riflescope and if you're hunting big game it is a riflescope that is better than many others. Trijicon gives you the choice 0f reticles between an MOA reticle, mil-square reticle and a standard duplex. For hunters, the Trijicon is s a great riflescope.

The price is not the lowest, but it's also certainly not the highest, and for a riflescope with such good reviews, the price is not too high at all. This certainly isn't a budget option for a budget firearm, but considering the specifications that's probably not a surprise.
