Dicks got its name after its founder Richard “Dick” Stack. Dick opened his first store as a fishing supply salesman after his plans to expand his employers Army/Navy store in Binghamton was rejected.

Dick got disengaged after planning to expand the navy stores into selling camping and fishing supplies. The owner did not buy his idea because he thought Dick “would never be a good merchant.”

Dick took $300 from his grandmother and got a storefront for his very first “bait & tackle” supply store on Court Street near Howard Avenue in 1948.

That little store in New York grew and expanded into over 610 stores spread out in 47 U.S states. Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. also owns Golf Galaxy Inc., which specializes in golf equipment and has over 82 stores in America.

Aside from some of the best gun deals and outdoor products deals, Dick’s offered a bonus coupon to shoppers who made purchases during the Black Friday sales. The coupons lasted for purchases made from November 27 to December 14 and were valid for $20 off every $100+ purchase.

Dicks also offered coupons used for every item on sale during Black Friday. These coupons, however, were not used during Doorbusters. Other discounts were $15 off $59.99+ purchase on footwear or athletic apparel. Shoppers could also win Dick’s cash when they buy selected items.

Online shoppers were not left out too; Dick’s offered free shipping on all purchases made during the Black Friday week which is an improvement of the regular free shipping offered by the retailer on certain purchases.
